I have been away from posting here for a while, but that’s for good reason!

Besides all the work of rescuing dogs, caring for them and keeping up all the other rescue-related stuff, I have also been trying to get a new and improved website up for the Center. And suddenly, it all came together!

BuckHawk Center, Animal Rescue has a new site. It’s still in its infancy, but it’s coming together nicely.

My wish list for the site is almost as long as my to-do list for the site! Sheesh, so much to do, so little time. But, it’s getting there.

It’s fun to do, though. The opportunity to give these wonderful dogs a better chance at adoption is really a driving force. This kept me going through some quite frustrating times and some really bad false starts.

So please take a moment and visit BuckHawk Center’s new site, leave a comment, even link to it. Next on my list is a links page to reciprocate for you.

2011 brought new hopes and new dreams for the BuckHawk Center. It brought hopes of wonderful things to come, but it also brought my New Year’s Resolution. I can say that it’s hard to be an animal rescuer. But, not because of seeing such terribly abused and neglected dogs. The hard part is not the patience to re-train a dog to make a good pet. And it’s not saying goodbye when an animal gets adopted. It’s begging for more funds.

Begging is especially hard for me. But, I resolved with this new year that I had to do it. The animals deserved it. With more funds could come growth, which means more animals can be saved. So it was time to beg.

I wrote a page about my new year’s resolution and I spent two weeks debating with myself, re-reading it, being embarrassed at sounding so desperate. Finally, I knew I had to do it. So I put it out there for my Squidoo community to see: My New Year’s Resolution: To Beg More.

The response was wonderful. The community, who never really knew about our little center, came together to help. I cried many tears of joy in those days. And still do at the outpouring of love that came. Still, begging is hard to do for me, but is increasingly becoming not the embarrassing thing that it always had been.

Exciting new things will be happening for us, most especially being able to pay down that huge vet bill we seem to always have. You may not think that is exciting, but for me it is very exciting! So much so, that an animal rescue friend sent me a very funny email: You know when you’ve been in animal rescue too long when…

Being the good Squidoo-er that I am, I also did a humorous look at what that means to me! Signs of Animal Rescue become a chance to laugh at myself and enjoy some fun at this crazy world, including the support our vet gets from us!

So take some time if you can and read about the BuckHawk Center and some of our toughest (and most expensive rescues) then enjoy the fun how silly one can be.

We are nearing Christmas and that does such a wonderful thing to warm my heart. December is my favorite month. It starts off with my birthday and ends up with 2 wonderful holidays. Inbetween, is all the getting ready for the biggest holiday of the year, Christmas.

I was challenged to come up with a page about animals and Christmas. How do they feel about the holidays? That turned out to be easy for me to do. I turned it over to the animals and let them answer the question: Do Pets Enjoy Christmas.

That page may be a lighter look at the fun of the holidays and the pets, but there is a different reality. Many pets really don’t like the holidays and many pets can be in danger during the holidays.

People who we considered to be friends and family may be considered strangers to our pets. Human food is often left unattended, tempting a pet into eating the wrong stuff. Glass ornaments and cats can present a real hazard. Wrapping paper, ribbons, Christmas decorations can all present choking or blockage hazards to pets.

So take just few moments this Christmas to consider the personality of your own pet. If you are having people over and your pets know “stranger danger,” consider tucking them safely away while your guests are around. Keep food and drink away from them, especially chocolate and alcohol. Even in the hectic pace of getting ready for Christmas, take a few extra minutes to give you pets some attention. They are members of your family and consider their needs during this happy time of year.

While you are considering your own pets, consider those who are not yet pets, but wanting to be. Find a few extra minutes and a few extra dollars this year to donate to an animal rescue organization.

You may think the rescued animals at BuckHawk, and everywhere else for that matter, don’t know a Holiday from any other day. It’s true, they don’t get the day off work, but I will tell you, they know something is going on.

They know this because of the way the humans around them act. Think of Thanksgiving. We are busy preparing the house, the table, and most of all the food! We are excited, anxious, certainly off our own routine. The animals know this.

At BuckHawk, we give all the animals an extra special treat. Thanksgiving is alot about food for the humans, so we include the animals with special food, too.

Be sure to include your pets in holiday celebrations. Be aware that they are aware something is different. So share something special with them for the holidays.
